Description

The Ackerman – W10 Freestanding Fireplace is a Steel, wood burning fireplace.  This closed combustion fireplace offers 7,5kW of heat and is perfect for heating small rooms.

This wood fireplace has a removable cast iron grate and is lined with firebricks.

All Ackerman wood burning fireplaces come with a 2-year warranty.

Slow Combustion fireplace

The Ackerman – W10 Freestanding Fireplace is a slow combustion fireplace which offers more than twice the heat output of an open fireplace. Slow combustion Fireplaces are highly efficient and very economical.  You use approximately a third of the wood when compared to an open fire. You transfer more heat back into the room instead of losing the heat through the flue outlet.

We suggest you use the Fire Heart Polish for the preservation and restoration of cast iron and steel (stoves, chimneys, grates, fireplaces, fire backs, etc.)

Using your fireplace for the first time?

The first few times you light your new freestanding fireplace, use a half-load of wood. The paint on the fireplace needs to cure and the unit needs to settle. There will be a hazy smoke and a slightly unpleasant smell from the excess oils burning off. Please leave your windows and doors open.

INITIAL IGNITION OF THE FIREPLACE

  1. Take all supplementary tools out of the ashpan.
  2. The regulators for the primary and secondary air control must be open.
  3. At 1st ignition the door must not be closed fully. Do not turn the handle in the locked position. The curing of the paint can cause sticking to the insulation rope, so avoid pressing the rope insulation against the door in the first few hours.
  4. The 1st ignition must be slow and still. Initially start the fire with a little paper and twigs, gradually adding two pieces of wood at a time and gradually making the temperature hotter. Do this for about 3-4 hours.
  5. The paint will start curing and there might be some smell and even a bit of smoke coming off from it initially. This will all go away by the second fire.
  6. Avoid touching the paint in this process as the paint becomes extremely soft and touching can cause smudge marks

Running your Ackerman w10 fireplace

Control and Operate your fireplace correctly by Loading your wood periodically with one good sized load every hour. This is far better than adding small amounts of wood at regular intervals.

Once your previous load has burnt down to glowing orange coals, spread these coals across the bottom of the fireplace chamber and add your new load of wood on top.

The number of logs you add depends on the heat output that you require and the heating capabilities of your fireplace. Load 2 pieces of wood into your fireplace per hour for a 6kw heat output .

Once the new load of wood is burning well, close the air intake controls to the point where you have a slower flame.

When starting the fire on a cold day, add 2 pieces of wood and kindling. After the first hour, repeat. Thereafter, if the room has reached a comfortable temperature, the hourly load can be reduced to maintain the desired temperate level.

Over firing your fireplace

Over-firing a fireplace, where it burns too hot, can cause damage to the fireplace itself, the chimney or even the surrounding area. This is usually due to excessive fuel, improper airflow, or issues with the venting. It significantly increases the risk of a chimney fire and can damage the fireplace’s components, like the throat, baffle plate, or grate.
